2011-2012
Association of Government Lawyers and
Prosecutors Association
Two Associations Honoured
At the start of the year, Québec was shaken by an historic strike. The Association of Government Lawyers and the Prosecutors Association formed a common front to improve the working conditions of their members and consequently ensure the effectiveness of the judicial system.
The Association of Government Lawyers is a union of nearly 1,000 legal professionals working in the departments and agencies of the Québec Government and certain agencies not part of the public service. Its mission is to promote and defend the interests of its members, negotiate their working conditions and ensure their respect.
The Prosecutors Association represents some 450 Crown Prosecutors with the Québec Government and acts as their sole spokesperson. By watching over the defence of the interests of its members, it contributes to a quality criminal justice system that serves the public.
To pay tribute to the courage of these men and women who fight for respect and dignity that the Bar of Montreal, with the consent of the Conference of Former Presidents, has decided to present them with the Bar of Montreal’s highest distinction.
Each of the two associations received a Medal from the President. Mtre Éric Dufour, spokesperson for the Association des juristes de l’État, and Mtre Christian Leblanc, President of the Association des procureurs aux poursuites criminelles et pénales, accepted this distinction on behalf of their respective associations.
